HeliPort Overview
HeliPort is an application that acts as 'middleware' for client applications wishing to communicate with a Helix© Collection.
HeliPort converts the TCP/IP commands into the necessary AppleEvents and extracts the replies from the Appleevents and returns them to the client issuing the command.
HeliPort runs on OSX We recommend that users upgrade their server to version 6.
HeliPort OSX serves Helix Rade , Helix Server 6 and Helix Engine.
HeliPort is for developers wishing to write their own clients to Helix databases.
It is supplied with and required by HeliScheduler OSX but does not include the development command manual, which is only supplied with the purchase of HeliPort.
HeliPort version 5 now introduces
- remote acces to Helix collections. This enables users to run HeliPort on a different machine than the Collection.
- Growl enablement
- This enables users to send notifications to growl enabled machines and iPhones via TCP,UDP or appleevents (locally and remotely) and costs an additional 50 Euros per HeliPort
HeliPort has been used by a number of developers to provide data access to Helix collections using various languages such as
- PHP
- Java
- REALbasic
- In fact it can be used by any language that can use a socket
